Ethical and Safeguarding Considerations
My foremost aim is to ensure a safe working environment for both myself, and the client, so the following considerations are to be taken:
· When the tutoring session is taking place, it must be in a communal room within the clients’ house, with at least one responsible adult (RA) in the residence, in hearing distance, throughout the duration of the session.
· All sessions will be conducted in the strictest confidence unless the client gives consent for confidentiality to be broken or if there is a safeguarding issue. Under these circumstances, then confidentially will need to be broken.
· I have an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS) that is currently valid and will act within my role as a private tutor in accordance with that expressed within the teaching standards and “Keeping children safe in education”, both produced by the Department for Education.
· Data Protection Statement: Only I (Tom Parsons) will have routine access to your data. I will hold your data in a secure manner for 5 years from the last contact, so that I have your records if you want to return at a later date. However, if you want me to destroy the records I hold on you prior to that you can contact me at any time. I abide by the boundaries set by the GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018. Please contact me if you’d like more information on how I store and collect data on you.
Session Details
· Sessions will take place at the clients’ residence (with the previously mentioned safeguarding measures in place). The best results will be achieved if the environment for the tutoring is calm and quiet.
· As I will be driving to the clients’ residence, suitable parking arrangements will need to be communicated clearly beforehand.
· To get the most out of a session, it is crucial that the client informs me of any subjects to be covered within the session at least 24 hours before the session so that relevant materials can be provided.
· Preferred contact is by either email or text. If any communication is received, I will reply in a timely manner.
· If, in my professional opinion, I believe that my tutoring will no longer be beneficial for the client, I will inform the client and discuss other relevant options.
Payment details
· Sessions will cost £35 per hour for GCSE science, £45 per hour for A-level chemistry. If the distance of the clients’ residence requires a significant drive, a £5 extra charge will be added per session to account for extra fuel costs. This will be discussed, if relevant, before the first session.
· Payment can be made by bank transfer or by card, due by the end of the session. If by bank transfer, please transfer to the following account: Account no. 81479733, Sort Code 40-37-01 with the name of account holder as MR T F PARSONS.
· If you wish to cancel a session, a 24-hour notice period is required or you will be charged for the full session. Missed sessions will incur the full session fee due by the end of the day of the session.
Expectations of the Client and their Parent/Guardian
Alongside the previous requirements, the following requirements are also required:
· The client will not be under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs during the session.
· The client will be committed and motivated to achieve the best results.
· The client and their RA will acknowledge that tutoring will have primarily a long-term effect and individual sessions will have varying degrees of success, as all teaching does. I cannot guarantee any specific outcomes of my tutoring.
· If any additional work is set to be completed between sessions, it will be expected that this will be done and present for the next session, as my planning for the following session will inevitably revolve around the work expected to be completed.
· The client and RA will treat me with respect, any verbal or physical abuse will result in an immediate cessation of the session.
Please sign and date below if you agree to and understand these conditions, if any of the conditions aren’t met I reserve the right to terminate the session and cancel any further session.
